The Voices Of Recovery Speaker’s Bureau is a representation of an empowering message that recovery does indeed work. We are available to speak to any community group interested in learning more about alcohol, drugs, addiction, treatment and recovery including civic groups, schools, neighborhood associations, religious groups, business organizations and community service groups.
The purpose of the Speaker’s Bureau is to educate, support, de-stigmatize and promote that “recovery works”. Our focus is on education, treatment access options and support designed to assist individuals seeking treatment, families coping with addicted loved ones and the reintegration of addicted individuals who have lived a destructive lifestyle into productive members of our community.
Our speakers share information on a variety of alcohol and drug related topics including:
· Defining the difference between the concepts of treatment and recovery
· The “who, what and why” of substance use; how you can help
· Types of treatment and treatment resources
· Cultural issues surrounding drug and alcohol abuse
· Stigma and prejudice against people in recovery
· Recovery and family support
· Enabling vs. tough love
· Community resources and support
· Reintegrating former addicts from prison into our community
· Recovery advocacy
· How treatment and recovery can cultivate community healing
· Advocating for more prevention, treatment and recovery resources
